Greek.- Gretser (Jakob) The rudiments of the Greek tongue, out of the first book of the institutions of James Gretser of the Society of Jesus, text in English and Greek, title with woodcut floral Jesuit ornament, ink names to head of title, final sig. working loose, final f. mounted on stub, some soiling, occasional spotting, recased in 19th century blind-stamped cloth, spine ends and corners worn, rubbed, [Wing G1944A], 12mo, printed by Henry Hills, printer to the King's most Excellent Majesty, for his houshold and chappel, for himself and Matthew Turner, 1687. ⁂ Rare, with ESTC recording only two copies (BL and Georgetown). Gretser was one of the great Jesuit scholars of his time, teaching philosophy and theology at Ingolstadt. He was admired by Pope Clement VIII and Maximillian I, amongst other luminaries.
