Grant writes that their father wishes to give some securities to Grant's son, Jesse: "Of course I do no want the funds, particularly as I know both he and Orvil [Grant's brother] need them." In order to please his father, however, the generous Grant agrees to take the funds and: "When they are received I shall send to Orvil's wife the amount Jesse receives."
