GRAND DUCHESS OLGA ALEXANDROVNA Russia 1882­1960 Garden Design with poppies Signed Olga. Watercolour on paper, image area 24 x 21 cm. Inscribed on the back; "Picture of Grand Duchess Olga, the last Russian tsar's sister, who lived in Copenhagen in 1945. Grand Duchess court lady Madame Iskra brokered the purchase. Was invited to the Grand Duchess." PROVENANCE Valeska Randel, Copenhagen, later inherited by the present owner. Olga was the daughter of Tsar Alexander III and Maria Feodorovna, and sister to the last Russian Emperor Nicholas II. For most of her life she lived in exile ­ first in Denmark, where she came with her mother the Dowager Empress Maria Feodorovna after the Revolution, then in Canada, where she moved after the World War II, and where she lived on a farm in Ontario with her husband Colonel Nikolai Kulikovsky.
