Title-page, frontispiece; trifle foxing. Bound in full brown calf, spine with raised bands in five compartments, second with brown morocco label lettered in gilt, fourth with gilt lettering, others with gilt sporting tools, boards with central gilt stamp of woman with rooster, and with double gilt rules and tooled blind, board edges tooled in gilt, inside dentelles with gilt rules, marbled edges, marbled endpapers; rebacked but with the original spine preserved, some rubbing at extremities, upper corner of rear board bumped. Housed in a brown cloth clamshell box. — [Gosdon, Thomas, editor]. Songs of the Chace, &c ... Second Edition. London: Printed for Sherwood, Neely, & Jones, 1811. 8vo (165 x 100 mm). Engraved half-title, frontispiece, title-page; foxing to first and last few leaves. In full red straight grain morocco, spine with raised bands in five compartments, second and fourth with gilt lettering surrounded by circular gilt borders and tooled blind at corners, third compartment with gilt sportsman tool, others tooled blind, boards with central gilt stamp of woman with rooster, ruled in gilt, tooled in gilt and blind, inside dentelles gilt, top and bottom edge gilt, fore-edge painting, teal endpapers; some rubbing at extremities, stray scratches and stains to boards. Three handsomely bound volumes on sporting, one with a fore-edge painting. Thomas Gosden (1780-1840) was an English bookbinder, collector, bookseller, publisher, and sportsman. He was particularly known for sporting bindings such as these.
