[Nuremberg]: Chretien de Launoy, 1770. 2° (421 x 265 mm). 51 hand-colored engraved plates, 3 engraved head-pieces, numerous tail-pieces. (A few light marginal stains.) Later half calf over cloth boards, flat spine with black and red lettering pieces gilt (spine chipping with loss at head and foot, hinges broken, overall wear). Provenance : The Warren H. Corning Collection Horticultural Classics (bookplate on pastedown). FIRST EDITION of the French translation of Das neueste aus dem reiche der pflanzen , a work in which Gleichen-Russworm applies his microscopic research to pollen and plant fertilization. The plates were engraved by J.C. Keller after Gleichen-Russworm, and the headpieces were engraved by J.M. Stock after Keller. 45 of the plates illustrate details of floral structure, various pollens, or insects; the other 6 depict the modifications and accessories which he designed for his microscope.
