Sadducismus Triumphatus: or, a full and plain evidence, concerning witches and apparitions. In two parts. The first treating of their possibility. The second of their real existence … The Fourth Edition, with Additions … Dr. H. More's account … Also, two authentick, but wonderful stories of certain Swedish witches. Done into English by Dr. Horneck. With some account of Mr. Glanvil's life and writings.
London: printed for A. Bettesworth, J. Batley [and others], 1726. 2 parts in one volume, 8vo (192 x 120 mm). First (general) title in red and black, 3 engraved plates. Old calf gilt. Condition : rebacked, later endpapers. Provenance : Joseph Dunninger (1892-1975, bookplate) the “amazing dunninger’s” copy of this classic late 17th-century account of witches and witchcraft. Joseph Dunninger was the most famous magician/mentalist of his day. His radio shows in the thirties were very popular, to the extent that the results of a survey in the early 1940’s apparently proved that his voice was recognised by more people than the President’s. Glanvil’s work was first published 1681, but the present edition includes significant additions. Caillet 4562.
