FIRST EDITION of this collection of laudatory verses by, inter alios , Ottavio Rinuccini, Bernardo Davanzati and Bernardo Vecchietti (the instigator of the present work) to celebrate Giambologna's marble statue of the Rape of a Sabine which had been unveiled in January 1583 in the Loggia de Lanzi in the Piazza della Signoria. The woodcut of the Piazza shows the position of the existing statues and also contains a key to identify them as well as giving the name of their creators.
