An early edition of Gesner's 'most popular work' (Wellisch), containing the posthumous first edition of the second part, edited by Gesner's student Caspar Wolf It is a work of medical alchemy based on Paracelsus, collecting recipes for distillation, wine-making, and medicines. Most of the woodcuts reproduce various stills. It was first published in 1552 under the pseudonym Euonymus Philiatrus ('A well-known friend of the art of medicine').
