The Natural Order of Gerania, Illustrated by Coloured Figures and Descriptions; Comprising the Numerous and Beautiful Mule-Varieties Cultivated in the Gardens of Great Britain, with Directions for their Treatment Author: Sweet, Robert Place: London Publisher: Printed for James Ridgeway Date: 1820-28 Description: Vols. I-IV (of V). with 400 hand-colored copper-engraved plates, engraved by S. Watts after E.D. Smith, each accompanied by a leaf of descriptive letterpress. 9x5½, period half calf & boards, rebacked in calf with original gilt-tooled spine strips laid on. Excellent plates of Geraniums. Robert Sweet (1783-1835) was a British horticulturist and nurseryman at Stockwell and Chelsea and published several other important books. The five volumes were published in parts over a period of ten years, and partial sets, such as this one, are not uncommon. Lot Amendments Condition: Some rubbing to boards and original spine strips, the rebacking is exceptionally well done; light offset from the plates to the text leaves, near fine overall.
