GEORGE HERRIMAN Krazy Kat 2/18/1917 Original art. Wandering through the fantasy world created by Herriman, Krazy Kat is involved in an eternal love triangle, about which the strip constantly revolves. Krazy displays her love for Ignatz the mouse, who shows his disdain for this affection with an unending number of bricks, which are interpreted by Krazy as tokens of affection. The third member of the triangle, Offissa Pup, tries to protect Krazy from Ignatz's antics only to be foiled again and again. There are three distinct time periods during which the strip grows more sophisticated with gradual and subtle changes; this example is from the earliest such period, dating from the first year of the Sunday format. We observe Krazy demonstrating her more feline qualities, walking on all fours, and we are treated to a rare view of Mrs. Ignatz Mouse and her children. Pen and ink on paper-- 18½ x 16½ in . Fine
