Gentlemen v Players 1934. Two nice original official mono photographs of each of the teams taken for the match played at Lord's, 25th-27th July 1934, both teams seated and standing in rows, the Gentlemen players in cricket attire, the Players wearing blazers. The Gentlemen team features Wyatt (captain), Valentine, Walters, Allen, Turnbull, Levett, Holmes, Melville, Brown , Human and Baxter. For the Players, Hendren (captain), Hammond, Sutcliffe, Leyland, T.B. Mitchell, Ames, Verity, Smith, Nichols, A. Mitchell and O'Connor. Both photographs measure approx. 11"x9.25". Photographer unknown. Sold with an original mono press photograph of Cyril Walters in batting action during his match winning stand with R.E.S. Wyatt. 7.75"x5.75". Small tear to top edge, otherwise in good condition. Qty 3
The Gentlemen won the match by seven wickets, the first time they had beaten the Players at Lord's for over twenty years. With the scores closely matched after the first innings, the Players declared their second innings at 245 for five (Michell 120).
