Title: Genio Dei Macchiaioli Author: Borgiotti, Mario Place: Milano Publisher: Alfieri & Lacroix Date: [1968] Description: 2 volumes. 342; [6], 349-711, [1] pp. Illustrated throughout with 340 tipped in color plates. (Folio) 37x28 cm (14½"x11"), leather backed tan cloth with gilt stamped title, gilt spine title and rule, each volume with its own illustrated slipcase. First Edition. The Macchiaioli were a group of Italian painters active in Tuscany in the second half of the nineteenth century, who, breaking with the antiquated conventions taught by the Italian academies of art, did much of their painting outdoors in order to capture natural light, shade, and color. Some notable artists of the movement were Giuseppe Abbati Cristiano Banti and Odoardo Borrani Scarce collection with lush reproductions. Text in Italian.
