Roads' Charlottesville, VA backmark; and an expanding wallet with the initials O.M. in gilt lettering on the front flap, 5.75 x 8 in. William Mahone (1826-1895) was a native of Virginia, a graduate of the Virginia Military Institute and an instructor at the Rappahannock Military Academy. Following the war, Mahone entered politics and was elected to the U.S. Senate as a representative of the Readjuster party and served from 1881 to 1887.
