GARRICK, David (1717-79). Autograph letter signed ('D Garrick') to his brother George, Londesburgh Park, Yorkshire, 15 August [?1752], 4 pages, 4to (weakness at folds; repaired). Garrick voices his extreme suspicion of Lacy, his partner in the management of Drury Lane ("What can Lacy mean by using me in this Manner & concealing the truth from me? - sure he must be ye meanest & lowest of creatures? I am indeed as much astonish'd as vex'd at it, for it is impossible to find out his Drift ... You are right not to draw ye Article for I will not sign it, is there not some after Game in all this?") and discusses contracts and salaries ("I will not consent to give Mrs Bland ten pounds a week if we wanted her ever so much") and considers Mrs Price ("it is almost impossible that she should ever do. Affectation in one so old is incurable...") Garrick was a guest of the 3rd Earl of Burlington and his wife at Londesburgh, near Market Weighton in 1750, 1751 and 1753. Burlington himself died in December 1753 but Garrick remained friendly with Lady Burlington
