France in the second half of the 16th century as surveyed by Jean Jolivet (Joannes Joliuetus), published by Ortelius in various editions of the Theatrum from 1570 to 1612. A reduction of Jolivet's 1560 map "Nouvelle description des Gaules...," the only known surviving copy of which was destroyed during World War II, it is called by Karrow "an enduring and influential map of France."
