G.R. LAMBERT & CO., SKEEN & CO., ZANGAKI, and others (photographers) A photograph album of views and portraits from the Middle and Far East. [Various places: no date but circa 1875]. Oblong 2° (256 x 350mm). Mounted on guards throughout, 109 albumen prints mounted recto and verso of 49 card leaves, and verso only of front free endpaper. (Mounts slightly warped, occasional spotting to mounts, slight marginal fading to some images.) Contemporary black half roan gilt (rubbed). Provenance : most plates titled in ink, in Italian, by a single early hand. A FINE ALBUM, RECALLING AN EXTENSIVE TRIP TO THE FAR EAST via the Suez Canal (13 photographs, most with Zangaki's blindstamp in the negative), Aden (6 views), Sri Lanka (7 views and portraits, with at least three by Skeen & Co.), Penang (6 views and portraits), Singapore (4 views, 4 quarter-plate portraits on one page), Thailand (view of the Royal Palace, portrait of Rama V by G.R. Lambert & Co., 9 other portraits [8 quarter plate, mounted on two pages, and including two of members of the Thai Royal family], 1 view including Thai elephants), Saigon and Vietnam (12 views and portraits), Hong Kong (9 views and portraits), Amoy (7 portraits and views), the rest of China including Shanghai, Whampoa, Kinching (KiuKiang) and Hankow (29 views and portraits on 28 pages, including 3 half-plate group portraits).
