Taylor at the Architectural Library, 1796 4to (280 x 210 mm). 17 plates; scattered spotting, minor marginal toning and occasional soiling, plates with more significant foxing and browning, a few marginal chips. Original boards; rebacked to style, rubbed, restoration to corners. In custom clamshell case. First edition. Robert Fulton was a skilled artist, engineer, and inventor. his early work primarily focused on the design of canal systems, which were vital to commercial activity in nineteenth-century America. Fulton went on to achieve ever greater engineering feats, including the practical creation of the steamboat, and the development of submarines and torpedoes.
