FUCHS, REMACLEUS. De Plantis ante hac ignotis. [Venice: 1542]. Small 8vo, 135 x 92mm, 19th-century patterned-paper boards, title-label on front cover, front cover detached, first leaf slightly trimmed at upper blank margin . Woodcut of a plant on title colored by a contemporary hand. RARE. Remacleus Fuchs of Limberg was the author of several botanical works, but this appears to be the only edition of this work, which describes plants not in Dioscorides or are mistakenly identified by Dioscorides. Pritzel and Haller identify the edition as Venice, 1542, and it is not in other relevant bibliographies. Haller I, p.295; Pritzel 3145. Garmelus (?) Alost 1667, title inscription; J.B. Holzinger, bookplate; KKM/HSNY, bookplate and blindstamp -- FUCHS, LEONARD. Histoire General des Plantes et Herbes, avec leurs Proprietez. Rouen: widow of Jean Oursel, [1735]. 12mo, contemporary limp vellum, stained, leaves somewhat creased and frayed, the title torn along hinge . Two small woodcuts of stylized plants, one on title and one on p. 120, 71 small botanical woodcuts in text. A rare litle text, claiming to derive from Fuchs, but bearing little relation to either his text of the woodcuts of earlier editions. It appears instead to be a popular herbal issued by Oursel along with other simple and practical texts on gardening, cooking, arithmetic, etc. KKM/HSNY, bookplate and blindstamp. (2)
