FROST, Robert (1874-1963). A Boy's Will . London: David Nutt, 1913.
FROST, Robert (1874-1963). A Boy's Will . London: David Nutt, 1913. 8 o. Original cream paper wrappers (wrappers detached, very minor browning). FIRST EDITION OF FROST'S FIRST COMMERCIALLY PUBLISHED BOOK, second issue in binding variant D and with "Printed in Great Britain" stamped on the verso of the title-page. INSCRIBED BY FROST on the half-title: "First printing of my first book Robert Frost." After releasing fewer than 350 copies, the book's publisher, David Nutt, went into bankruptcy after the First World War and the remaining unbound sheets were acquired by Simpkin Marshall & Co. In 1923, most of the sheets and some bound copies were purchased by Dunster House Bookshop in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Those copies bound in binding variant D were thought to have been sold by Dunster House. Frost, known for his poems of New England, was actually born in San Francisco and had his first two books published in England after a five-year stint trying to farm in New Hampshire while attempting to have his poetry published. A Boy's Will follows his first publication, Twilight , an 1894 pamphlet printed in two copies and of which only one copy is known. Three years after the publication of North of Boston , his second collection, Frost returned to New England, his reputation firmly rooted. Crane A2.
