'The first extensively illustrated general treatise on plastic surgery published in Europe' (Garrison-Morton). Fritze and Reich were students of Dieffenbach's. As this pioneer in the field never published a comprehensive textbook specifically on plastic surgery, Fritze's work also fills an important gap in recording the achievements of Dieffenbach and his students.
