FRISIUS, Gemma Reinerus (1508-1555). Arithmeticae practicae methodus facilis , Wittenberg: Matthaeus Velacius, 1583. 8° (156 x 94mm.). Title with woodcut vignette. (Title with section torn away affecting date, occasional light spotting, browning and dampstaining). "This was the most popular arithmetic of the sixteenth century, at least among those intended for Latin Schools. It combined the older science of numbers with the commercial arithmetic of the Italian writers in such a way as to appeal in a remarkable degree to the teachers of the period" (Smith pp. 201-202). [ bound with :] SACRO BUSTO, Johannes de ("John of Holywood", d. 1256). Libellus de sphaera , [Wittenberg: Seitzius, 1578]. Title with woodcut device, woodcut illustrations. (Two leaves slightly frayed at lower margins, occasional light browning and dampstaining) [ and :] PEURBACH, Georg (1423-1461). Theoricae Novae Planetarum , Wittenberg: Johannis Cratonis, 1580. Woodcut illustrations, 3 folding woodcut diagrams. Together 3 works in one volume, contemporary German blind-stamped pigskin over boards, central scene of the crucifixion signed "L. M.", the upper cover stamped "H. S. S.," and dated 1590. (Rubbed and discoloured with minor losses, a few wormholes, old library label at foot of spine).
