Frères Veigneur. An extremely fine and rare 18K gold, enamel and pearl-set openface quarter repeating jaquemarts watch, made for the Chinese Market Signed Frères Veigneur à Genève, No. 13134, circa 1790 Full plate gilt-finished verge movement, chain fusée, engraved and pierced balance cock, repeating on two hammers onto a bell, eccentric small white enamel dial, Arabic numerals, surrounded by an applied vari-coloured gold scene depicting a couple apparently striking on two bells suspended from a fountain while lifelike water is running, all in unison with the repeating, turquoise and dark blue enamel background, circular case, chased and pearl-set bezel, reverse decorated with a painted polychrome enamel and pearl-set allegorical scene, chased foliage decorated gilt metal outer protective case with glazed back, movement signed and numbered 56 mm. diam.
