Many of the portraits are interleaves with an autograph statement for William Menzies Adams, the original owner of this book. 28x21.5 cm. (11x8½"), full morocco tooled in blind, lettered in gilt, marbled endpapers, all edges gilt. Yearbook for one of the first tuition-free municipal colleges in the United States, which opened n 1849, and was re-named The City College of New York in 1866. In addition to the original salt print portraits, the volume is especially interesting for the inclusion of a number of items: a lithographed portrait of the school's principal, Horace Webster; attractive original artwork, some in watercolor; William Menzies Adams' diploma signed by Webster; the commencement program from Nilbo's Saloon, and a silk banner reading "Class of '55."
