Freddie Mercury’s Zandra Rhodes black and white top; with matching scarf, 1974
a black and white silk jersey long-sleeved top, the black ground trimmed with white silk jersey ‘ribbons’ edged in black stitching in a serpentine pattern, the lower part of the top forming a frill gathered to an elasticated band trimmed with black ruffled ‘ribbon’ edged in white stitching, the low scoop neck with black frilled central panel edged in white stitching, unlined, labelled ‘Zandra Rhodes’; with a matching black scarf or sash edged in white stitching, with pointed ends, approx. 297 cm. long
(qty 2)
This top does not appear to have had significant stage wear, however there is a photograph of Freddie on stage at The Paddocks, Canvey Island, 22 March, 1974, where the sleeve of this top can be seen just below the cuff of a black and white floral jacket.
Roger Taylor had a very similar Zandra Rhodes top, with the addition of white stylized flowers, which he wore during the same period.
See lot 117 for another stage-worn Zandra Rhodes black and white top.
