Hurley had printed the photographs from his original negatives, the captions had been printed, a number of exhibition cards were ready and other preparations for the exhibition had reached an advanced stage when he died. It was decided that the exhibition should go ahead in Kodak House, Sydney, but under the more appropriate title of The Memorial Exhibition of the late Frank Hurley O.B.E. . As an early text card (not present in this selection) explains: The negatives of the pictures displayed here were made by... Hurley... 47 years ago. The prints were made recently by him for this exhibition. After the crushing of the "Endurance" the whole plate... glass negatives and cine film, hermetically sealed in containers, became submerged beneath ten feet of mushy ice for a week in the hold of the wreck. At great hazard, Hurley rescued the containers by diving beneath the ice... after the wreck, the story was continued with a Vest Pocket Kodak .
