Francis Foreman. A fine pre-hairspring oval silver and gilt verge pocketwatch signed Francis Foreman at St. Paules Fecit, circa 1630 the gilt movement with chain fusee, unusual pierced vase shaped pillars, the top plate with finely engraved border with swags and fruit, the pierced and engraved cock with irregular foot pinned to a block, the two armed steel balance with no hairspring, verge escapement, blued steel spring and wheel to the set up, the silver dial plate similarly decorated with scrolls and fruit to the border, dove and sun motif above XII, applied gold chapter ring with Roman numerals, the centre with engraved scene of the Angel Gabriel appearing before the Virgin Mary bearing a lily, the oval case with scrolled design repeated on the back, hinged front cover and the band, also with winged cherub heads, gilt rotating dustcover to the back, moulded gilt pendant with ring and finial, gilt seven piece hinge to the front cover, movement signed 66 x 38mm length over finial and pendant
