5 x 7" silver gelatin image on grey 8 x 8.75" mount with imprint of Muzzy, Mendota, Illinois, showing Horace D. Hickok, Dr. Joseph Edwards, and aged Captain Jack Crawford and "Mr. Harbaugh" posed on the front porch of the Hickok home in Illinois. A Rare image of Wild Bill's father. AUCTIONEER'S NOTE: Hickok authority Joe Rosa has alerted us that the Hickok in this image is actually his elder brother Horace. Indeed, Hickok's father, William Alonzo, died in 1852, well before this photographic medium was invented. Joe actually interviewed Horace's daughter Ethel who was about 15 when Crawford visited the Hickok homestead while researching a book on Wild Bill. She remembers him as somewhat of a pest, who vainly attempted to pry away any memorabilia associated with Bill, especially any guns he might have used. Thanks, Joe for the valuable correction! Provenance: The Mike Butler Collection of Western Photography Condition: EXC.
