Title: Fragment of film, carried on-board the historic flight to the moon of Apollo 8 Author: ** Place: Publisher: Date: December 21-27, 1968 Description: Film fragment affixed with a small piece of tape at each end to a 3x5" orange index card. Card with typed description of the fragment, "This is to certify that the attached film was carried on-board the historic flight to the moon and back of Apollo 8, December 21-28, 1968. Richard W. Underwood. Supervisory Aerospace Technologist." Signed by Underwood in red ink on the card. The fragment measures ½x2¾". A rare fragment of film brought aboard Apollo 8, affixed to a signed index card, issued by the Supervisory Aerospace Technologist. Apollo 8 was the first manned space craft to leave Earth's orbit, go around the moon, and return safely. It paved the way for Apollo 11's successful landing on the moon. The crew of Apollo 8, Frank Borman, James Lovell and William Anders, celebrated Christmas in space and their Christmas Eve broadcast was (at the time) the most watched TV program ever.
