Four charters, single sheet documents in Latin, on parchment [England (Berkshire), dated 1319, 1325, 1338 and 1371] Four documents: (a) grant of William ‘le vavasour’ (ie. vassal to a baron) of land in Leckhamstead, single sheet with 13 long lines in a curling English secretarial hand, cut at top to form a chirograph, with remains of capitals there, contemporary endorsement on reverse, seal tag (but no seal), some folds, small spots and small hole, 122+20 by 217mm., dated after Feast of St. Michael the Archangel 1319; (b) grant of John Malkam of land in Leckhamstead, long and thin single sheet with 6 long lines in English secretarial hand, seal tag cut horizontally from base (the stump once nearly torn away from charter, but secured with modern paper), two seal tags and remnants of one white wax seal with fleur-de-lys present, two small holes with discolouration, else good, 52 by 190mm., dated after the Annunciation 1325; (c) grant of John, son of William Frankelin of Thornton, of land there, fine single sheet with 9 long lines in a skilled and elegant English secretarial hand, one penwork initial, contemporary endorsement on reverse, seal tags present with two-thirds of black wax seal with crow-like bird in centre, folds and one small hole, else good condition, 104+25 by 280mm., dated 1 October 1338; (d) grant of Richard ‘le heyr’ and his wife Matilda of land in Leckhamstead, single sheet with 14 long lines in English secretarial hand, two seal tags (but only remnants of a single white wax seal), folds and small stains, else good condition, 135+18 by 230mm., dated on Feast of the Translation of St. Thomas the martyr 1371
