[12], 464; [8], 380; [6], 362; [8], 407; [8], 435, [3]; [8], 418 pp. Illustrated with 19 engraved plates, one of which is folding and 2 large folding maps. 8vo (173 x 110 mm). Original marbled paper wrappers as issued, printed spine labels. Uncut and mostly unopened, some infrequent faint foxing, but generally clean, light general wear to wrappers, one wrapper detached. Early collected edition of Forster's works with later edition of first volume. With descriptions of New Holland, the Northwest Coast of America, the islands Magindanao and Madagascar, the bread-tree (with two plates on one sheet), human races (pygmy), English literature, historic reliability, and about revolutions and the art of governing. Contains also the biographies of Captain Cook and of William Dodd, the royal preacher who ended on the gallows. Contains also many of Forster's reviews and his memories of 1790 (with 18 plates, among them 12 portraits). Forbes 165. Provenance: Library of Juergen L. Fischer, with his stamp inside upper wrap of first volume.
