[Antwerp], first half 18th c Drawing, pen and brown ink with brown and gray wash over graphite, 30,4 x 39,5 cm, laid paper, unsigned (sm. tear in upper edge, black and brown stains throughout). The front side of the folio is dominated by two figures executed with pen in brown ink and brown wash: a religious figure in a habit entranced in devotion, and a triumphant Virgin Mary, crushing the dragon under het feet. The latter is typical for Marian imagery during the Counter-Reformation in Antwerp. Other smaller figure sketches of men and soldiers are added surrounding these two women. Possibly drawings from a sculptor's workshop.
