FLEMING, Ian. (1908 - 1964). Casino Royale. Jonathan Cape, 1953. single volume, first edition, first impression, 8vo, (198 x 165mm), original publisher's black cloth with red heart device to upper cover, red lettering to spine, first printing dust-jacket designed by the author, clipped, priced 10s. 6d. on inner rear flap, (without the Sunday Times review on inner front flap) further within a clear protective wrapper, 218pp., contained in a custom half black morocco solander box titled in gilt to spine. Gilbert A1a (1.1). The author's first novel and the first to feature the character James Bond, according to the Cape archives, '4,760 sets of sheets of the first printing were delivered, but only 4,728 copies were bound up, many of these went to public libraries and we believe that less than half of the first printing was sold to the public'. Fleming's novel has been adapted for the screen three times, 1954 episode of the CBS TV. series Climax starred Barry Nelson as an American James Bond, 1967 Columbia film adaptation starred David Niven as Sir James Bond and 2006 film adaptation, being the twenty-first in the franchise, starred Daniel Craig as the fictional MI6 agent, 007. Condition Report: clean bright cloth, dust-jacket clean and bright, marginal toning to rear panel and inner flaps, small chips to tips of upper panel and corners, two clean edge tears head of spine, (both approx. 20mm) marginal rubbing to corners, a good example overall.Condition Report Disclaimer
