Group of volumes on statistics, calculus, algebra and related mathematical subjects Comprising BACHELIER, LOUIS JEAN BAPTISTE ALPHONSE. Les Lois des grands nombres du calcul des probabilités. Paris, Gauthier-Villars, 1937. [offered with: ] La spéculation et le calcul des probabilités. Paris, Gauthier-Villars, 1938. [and:] Les nouvelles méthodes du calcul des probabilités. Paris, Gauthier-Villars, 1939. Three works, first editions, uncut in the original printed wrappers, with the stamp "Hommage de l'auteur" to the half-title of the first work, the three together in a clamshell case. Light wear.; POINCARÉ, H. Calcul des Probabilités. Leçons professées pendant le deuxeme semestre 1893-1894. Paris: Georges Carré, 1896. Burgundy half-morocco, raised bands, gilt-lettered spine, marbled boards and endpapers, top edge gilt. Light wear, spine faded; CAUCHY, AUGUSTIN LOUIS. Leçons sur le Calcul Différentiel. Paris, De Bure, 1829. First edition. Contemporary half calf. 4to.; some slight foxing to text; QUETELET, LAMBERT ADOLPHE JACQUES. Lettres à S. A. R. le duc régent de Saxe-Cobourg et Gotha, sur la théorie des probabilités, appliquée aux sciences morales et politiques. Brussels: Hayez, 1846. First edition. Old half calf. Rebacked; and KERSEY, JOHN. The elements of that mathematical art commonly called Algebra... To is added, lectures read in the School of Geometry in Oxford, concerning the geometrical construction of algebraical equations; and the numerical resolution of the same by the compendium of logarithms. By Dr. Edmund Halley, Savilion [sic] professor of Geometry in the University of Oxford. London, printed for R. and W. Mount, and T. Page, 1717. A crisp copy, entirely uncut, in contemporary grey boards, later paper spine. The trio of works by Bachelier are scarce contributions by the man now considered to be the first to explore mathematical finance, as well as the nature of stochastic processes such as Brownian motion. His instructor was Poincaré.
