FITZGERALD, F. SCOTT. Typescript providing biographical information for Esquire magazine, [Hollywood] "Backstage," 31 July 1939, 1 page, 4to, single-spaced, on buff paper, a little wrinkled, some edge tears; with his name "F. Scott Fitzgerald" typed in red at top and his initials typed at end . "Scott Fitzgerald ruined a shoulder and two shoulder blades diving into an unruffled pool in 1936 and spent months in bed -- thence going to Hollywood to recoup his fortunes. So it's over two years since he has done any magazine stories -- though his name has flashed momentarily on the screen as adapter of Remarque's Three Comrades , and he was one of the seventeen writers on 'Gone With the Wind.' He will be remembered by Esquire readers as the author of 'The Night Before Chancellorville [sic],' the much discussed 'Crack up' series and other pieces..." -- FITZGERALD, F. SCOTT. Autograph note (with signature in text) to Esquire publisher Arnold Gingrich, n.p., n.d. [probably Hollywood 1939], 1 page, 4to, in pencil on buff paper, a bit wrinkled, a little torn at bottom edge . "Suggested note at the end (in the next issue Scott Fitzgerald tells what sort of a home he managed to make in his new world) or something like this -- Don't you think so? That will be...the essay I'm doing now, if you want it. I think this is a good article and if you agree tell me so" -- FITZGERALD, ZELDA. Mimeographed religious statement signed ("Zelda Fitzgerald"), n.p., n.d. [1930s? 1940s], 1 page, 4to, double-spaced, with her large signature at bottom . "The world angered God with vanities and its indulgencies and the world in time-steeped, blood-saturate, glory-worn obeyance of His Grace. Though the late sun bled with tragedy and roads were drenched with heartbreak and worlds were lost in the dust of story, God sent the Spirit of Truth. One is grateful for the magnanimity of His love..." Together 3 items (definitely indicating the Jazz Age was over). (3)
