first edition, additional pictorial title, one colour plate and numerous striking black & white designs with typographic elements by Depero and Giovanni Gerbino, for Campari cordials & bitters, original pictorial wrappers, some spotting but otherwise a fine copy, [Salaris p.45], oblong 4to, [Milan, Davide Campari & Co., 1931]. *** Fortunato Depero (1892-1960), Italian futurist painter, writer, sculptor and graphic designer. Inspired by an article on Marinetti in the Lacerba paper (see lot 225), Depero went on to become a prolific figure in the futurism movement, writing the manifesto Ricostruzione futurista dell’universo [Futurist Reconstruction of the Universe] with Giacomo Balla in 1915. This campaign undertaken for Campari is a wonderful testament to Italian graphic design at its best, and rare in such condition.
