Abbey, quoting Emerson "The red slayer thinks he slays," and miscellaneous ideas (for stories?), the whole marked with various letters suggestive of a mnemonic game, the leaf with the penciled date of 1870 in another hand. Thirty-seven volumes. Full red morocco by Stikeman, the spines tooled and lettered in gilt, the covers panelled in gilt, marbled endpapers, gilt turn-ins, top edge gilt. 8 3/4 x 5 5/8 inches (22.5 x 15 cm); frontispieces and plates. The gilding chipped away on the top edge of many volume, a few nicks and scuffs but an attractive set. A large and finely bound set of Twain, rare offered at auction, with an unusual manuscript leaf bound-in. C
