FINE BINDINGS] DICKENS, CHARLES. The Autograph Edition of the Complete Works of Charles Dickens . New York & London: George Sproul, 1902-08. The Autograph Edition, number 31 of 250 sets, with the limitation leaf signed by the publisher and three Dickens signatures inserted. Fifteen thick volumes (all published). Finely bound by Trautz-Bauzonnet in full crushed green morocco, the spines tooled and lettered in gilt and with red floral inlays, the doublures elaborately inlaid with Dickens' initials, gilt floral designs and decoration in red, green, blue and purple morocco, watered silk endpapers, the top edge gilt, others uncut. 9 1/4 x 6 inches (23 x 15 cm); with three items signed by Dickens inserted (including one large signed check), signed frontispieces by Harry Furniss and others, numerous plates. One volume with some faint dampstain, the spines uniformly faded, a few nicks and scratches, one headcap chipped, an attractive and imposing set. The volumes published in this ambitious and luxuriously bound edition of Dickens include The Pickwick Papers, David Copperfield, Dombey and Son, Barnaby Rudge, The Old Curiosity Shop, and a volume entitled Reprinted Pieces. According to WorldCat only the first fifteen volumes were published despite the fifty-six volumes listed on the limitation leaf. C
