Extra-illustrated with numerous hand-colored and black and white plates, each volume with hand-painted limitation leaf. 27 volumes. Beautifully bound in contemporary full autumn morocco, boards elaborately paneled in gilt with multi-colored leather onlays, spine tooled and lettered in gilt in compartments, five raised bands, gilt turn-ins with red morocco fleur-de-lys onlays, white morocco doublures, cream watered silk liners, all edges gilt (some occasional rubbing). Fine. ONE OF ONLY FIVE COPIES PRINTED ON JAPANESE VELLUM AND ESPECIALLY EXTRA ILLUSTRATED. An absolutely gorgeous set of Court Memoirs, with the following memoirs (as quoted on the printed portion of the limitation leaves): “This set, consisting of the Memoirs of Matmontel, C. M. Tallyrand de Perigord, Bertrand Barere, Joseph Fouche, Madame du Barri, Empress Josephine, Napoleon the First, Madame D’Epinay, Sovereigns of Sweden and Denmark, Henry of Navarre, and Cardinal de Retz, of an edition of which only five copies were printed on Japanese Vellum, has been especially extra illustrated and bound for [original painting of the French and Royal Banner of France flags] It is guaranteed that this set will not be duplicated.”
