Provenance: W. James Holt (period ownership inscription inside front wrapper of several parts). FIRST EDITION IN ORIGINAL MONTHLY PARTS. Though the inside of the front wrapper of part 1 states that the work is to be completed in 14 monthly parts, the publisher's 'Address' at the front of parts 17 and 18 announces the extension of the project to 24 parts, so as not "to exclude from the collection numerous subjects of the first beauty and interest." The back wrapper of each part provides a list of illustrations.
