Title-page with engraved coat of arms of Geneva reading "Post Tenebras Lux," printed side notes throughout, pp. 85 and 87 misnumbered 87 and 85 as called for; title-page recornered, penultimate text leaf with expert restoration at foot not affecting text. In full crimson morocco, spine with gilt-decorated raised bands in five compartments, second and third lettered in gilt, boards with triple gilt rules and gilt flowers at corners, inside dentelles gilt, all edges gilt; sunning to spine, slightly rubbed at extremities, endleaves with notation in pencil and stray smudging, old dealer's description to front pastedown.
An exceedingly rare volume printed by Rouland Hall, who also printed the first edition of the Genevan Bible at Geneva in 1560, after which he moved to London. The present volume, translated by Robert Fills, presents the governing laws of Geneva as exemplary of Protestant civil conduct. We can trace only four copies ever appearing in the auction records.
