Fielding (Henry) Amelia, 4 vol., first edition, second state with line 4 corrected on p.191 of vol.3, but vol.1 still with first state dropped pagination on p.22, vol.1 lacking final blank but with advertisement leaf at end of vol.2 (often lacking), vol.1 with very light water-staining at beginning and end (mostly marginal) and B12 reinforced at inner margin, F7 in vol.2 with tiny paper flaw to foot causing loss of signature, small marginal stain to foot of H2v and H3r, otherwise a good clean set in contemporary (?continental) speckled boards with gilt-stamped pink paper labels, red speckled edges, rubbed, small nick to label of vol.3, corners a little bumped or worn, preserved in modern cloth drop-back box, [Rothschild 853],12mo, for A.Millar, 1752. ⁂ The author's final novel, rarely found in boards. It is regarded as the first novel of social protest, concerning issues such as poverty and prisons, and was an influence on Dickens.
