Faulkner, William. THE SOUND AND THE FURY. New York: Jonathan Cape and Harrison Smith, 1929. 1st printing, in 1st state jacket. 8vo hardcover in original publisher's dust-jacket. Book: Spine slightly cocked, light toning to spine and boards, light edgewear, contents clean throughout, Very Good. Jacket: Spine with large chip at head and several tears and smaller chips, chipping near top and bottom of flap folds, verso with three old tape repairs along folds and some smaller professional tissue repairs, note laid in states that the entire jacket (including the early tape repairs) has been professionally de-acidified and stabilized by a conservator, refer to photos. Very Good book in Good jacket. ***************************************** First printing in first state jacket, with Humanity Uprooted priced at $3.00 on rear panel (later issues have this title priced at $3.50.) This landmark work was the first of Faulkner's Yoknapatawpha novels, and it is considered the most influential usage of the stream-of-consciousness method of narration in Modern American literature. Though this was his fourth book, it is generally considered his first truly great novel. Scarcely seen in the first issue jacket.
