Serving with “D” Battery, 251st Brigade R.F.A. he was killed/died on 9 May 1917, aged 25 years. He was buried in the Hibers Trench Cemetery, Wancourt, Pas de Calais. With slip to accompany the British War and Victory Medals, addressed to Mrs A. Walker, 46 Argyle Street, Hebburn-on-Tyne. 4278 Gunner James Walker 242nd Brigade, R.F.A., was killed/died on 8 November 1916, aged 20 years. He was buried in the Warlingcourt Halte British Cemetery, Saulty, Pas de Calais. The above two were the sons of Mrs Annie Walker of 54 Argyle Street, Hebburn-on-Tyne, Co. Durham. Both are with copied m.i.c. and CWGC extracts. The Star to 864 Gunner J. Walker R.F.A. with copied m.i.c. which bears the remark, ‘D.O.W. 8.11.16’. This may indicate he is one and the same with ‘4278 James Walker’ but neither m.i.c. makes reference to the other service number or in the case of 4278 Walker, to a 1914-15 Star. An interesting group which requires further research.
