(Lacking half-title, frontispiece re-margined at top and gutter, title with slight loss at upper margin and date shaved, text cockled, light waterstaining throughout, more prominent at rear.) Modern calf-backed marbled boards.

Influenced by the work of Thomas Gouge, Firmin opened a workhouse to employ 'the poor' in the manufacture of linen, paying up to 1700 souls the sum of 6 d for a sixteen-hour day (the going rate at the time).
