Everett Opie is an artist and cartoonist whose humorous cartoons done for The New Yorker in the 1970s are still popular today. In this group, Opie depicts the facade of the Strand on Lower Broadway in various states, capturing the book store's parties and passersby. He renders the great writers, artists, and entertainers that frequented the Strand during the 1970s, many of whom are featured in Burt Britton's Self-Portrait . In his self-portrait, Opie comically depicts himself as Harry Lime (Orson Welles from the 1949 film, The Third Man .
