Very rare editio princeps of one of Erasmus' most influential writings. It deals with the use and abuse of the power of the human tongue ("speech" & "fake news"); the book is dedicated to the influential and wealthy Polish chancellor and diplomat, Krzystof Szydłowiecki (1467-1532), who thanked Erasmus with a rich gift of gold. As usual this Erasmus' first was printed by his Basel publisher and friend Johann Froben (active 1491-1527). Woodcut Froben mark on title and at the end. Ref.
