The present work relates to several Crucifixions painted by Rubens or his workshop. The most famous of these, probably the prototype, was painted by Rubens in 1610-1612 for the Church of the Recollets in Antwerp, now at the Koninklijk Museum, Antwerp. In this painting, as in other versions, the cross is not completely visible and rooftops can be seen in the background, which are absent in the present drawing. Nevertheless, the present sheet can be compared with a painting now in the Bob Jones University in Greenville (SC), in which the cross is also fully visible with a skull and crossbones beneath it.Read MoreAdditional informationAuction informationBuyers' ObligationsALL BIDDERS MUST AGREE THAT THEY HAVE READ AND UNDERSTOOD BONHAMS' CONDITIONS OF SALE AND AGREE TO BE BOUND BY THEM, AND AGREE TO PAY THE BUYER'S PREMIUM AND ANY OTHER CHARGES MENTIONED IN THE NOTICE TO BIDDERS.
