engraved partly folding title featuring architectural border and medallion portrait of the author, woodcut decorations and initials, some light staining to lower edge throughout, slight loss to folding out section of title, contemporary calf with blind-stamp coat-of-arms to upper cover, rebacked, 8vo, Milan, Apud Carolum Antonium Malatestam, Typographum Regium Cameralem, [1626]. *** Rare edition of an early study of the Nile by Count Lodovico Nogarola, a humanist from Verona who believed the source of the Nile to be in the Mountains of the Moon in Ethiopia. Provenance: Gower Earl Gower bookplate; also pencil ownership inscription of art critic and Soviet spy Anthony Blunt.
