[England] WILSON, George Washington; KIRK, William Umpleby; POULTON'S SERIES; F.F. & Co Album with photos. End of 19th c albumen prints, diff. sizes, pasted on cardboard, some ms. legends in ink, some photographer's blindstamps. Kept in an obl. quarter red shagreen album with gilt-titled cloth cover, gilt flat spine (rubbed at extremities). Photos showing the dike of Ostend, the Belgian packet boat "Marie-Henriette" (1893-sailing on the Ostend-Dover line, Dover Castle, the bay of Dover, Windsor Castle, several cities on the Isle of Wright (Ryde, Ventnor, Coves, Osborne) and Brighton (pier, grand hotels). Several blindstamps present: Poulton's Series, associated with the photographer, publisher and printer Samuel E. Poulton (1819-1898), but also with the Edinburgh-based photographer Thomas Polson Lugton (1860-1927); William Umpleby Kirk (1843-1928), a pioneer photographer of the late Victorian period based in Cowes; George Washington Wilson (1823-93), photographer to Her Majesty in Scotland and a highly successful landscape photographer; and F.F. & Co (aka Frith & Co or Frith's Series) being the company of Francis Frith (1822-based in Reigate as the world's first specialist photographic publisher.
