Beschreibung:

Albumen photograph, approx. 6 x 8 in., showcasing a lively storefront and bank in Emporia, Kansas, with pencil inscription on mount reading "Senator Plumb's Bank / Emporia Kan's 1871." Men and children can be seen standing on the balcony of the store, while one man in a suit and hat stands out on the sidewalk in front of the building. To the left side of the building, windows read "Neosho Valley / Bank" while windows and signs to the right side read "No 58 Cigar Factory Cigar Factory No 58," "Smith & Kaiser, " and "Tobacco / & / Cigars." Though the main subject of the image is the building at center, other signs and buildings are partially visible as well. Preston Bierce Plumb (1837-1891) was born in Delaware County, Ohio and died in Washington, D. C. Plumb enlisted in the Union Army in 1862 and served as second lieutenant during the Civil War. He was elected to the United States Senate in 1877 and served until his death.
